The traditional ORIS brand is the future: a new brand strategy at ACPS Automotive
The ACPS Automotive Group has strategically relaunched one of its brands. After the takeover by TowerBrook Capital Partners (TCP), ACPS will combine the OEM business and the aftermarket field in the ORIS brand in the future.
“From now on, our products will bear the traditional brand name ORIS. This takes the baton from BOSAL, the previous brand name for all products of this kind. This is why more and more of our customers are already receiving merchandise bearing the new logo,” explains Oliver Hill, Director Independent Aftermarket, ACPS Automotive. “With most of our bicycle racks, couplings and accessories, we have already made the change. Roof racks will soon follow. Also, the transition phase which has been in place since March means that stock bearing the former logo is still available.”

BorgWarner’s R2S® Turbocharger Boosts Premium Class
The success story of BorgWarner’s regulated two-stage (R2S®) turbocharging system now includes another milestone in the long-standing cooperation with the German premium manufacturer, Mercedes-Benz. The unique solution now boosts the most powerful version of Mercedes-Benz 4-cylinder diesel engine, the OM 654, with a power of 180 kW (241 HP). The design of BorgWarner’s turbocharging system was especially adapted to comply with the stringent current emissions standard Euro 6d TEMP, while delivering outstanding engine performance. For this reason, the R2S utilizes an intelligent combination of a highly sophisticated variable turbine geometry (VTG) turbocharger for high-pressure stages and a wastegate turbocharger for low-pressure stages.

BorgWarner introduces its state-of-the-art Onboard Battery Charger (OBC), adding to the company’s impressive portfolio of technologies for plug-in hybrid and pure-electric vehicles. This technology uses pioneering silicon carbide technology and is best in class for power density, power conversion efficiency and safety compliance. The OBC is installed in hybrid or electric vehicles to convert alternating current (AC) from the power grid to direct current (DC) for charging batteries. This exciting technology accepts an extended range of AC inputs including 7.4 kilowatt (kW), 11 kW and 22 kW power ratings with DC-to-DC converter rating integration from 2.3 kW to 3.6 kW as an option. Most importantly, it is compatible with all battery chemistries and voltages of 400 volts, 650 volts and 800 volts.

Röchling Automotive presents generic AeroSUV
At this year’s SAE World Congress in Detroit (9 to 11 April), Röchling presented its latest development in the field of aerodynamics, the AeroSUV, to an audience of international experts. Röchling developed the generic AeroSUV in conjunction with the Research Institute of Automotive Engineering and Vehicle Engines Stuttgart (FKFS) at the University of Stuttgart, Germany. It is a 1:4 scale model that combines the legal definitions and design details of medium-sized SUVs. The model allows for far-reaching flow simulations and wind tunnel tests to optimize flow in a vehicle’s pre-development stage. It also provides a unique opportunity to compare different flow scenarios among a variety of software packages and with the wind tunnel tests.

Plug-in Hybrid Truck Powered by BorgWarner’s Electric Motor
BorgWarner’s reputation as a leading supplier of hybrid vehicle systems was further strengthened by the news that a major European commercial vehicle manufacturer has chosen the company’s proven High Voltage Hairpin (HVH) 410 electric motor for a plug-in hybrid electric truck (PHEV) to be launched in 2019. The electric motor is a key component in a range of vehicles including urban and night-time delivery trucks and waste handling vehicles. Generating 130 kW (174 hp) of power and 1,050 Nm of torque, the HVH motor will work in parallel with an inline five-cylinder engine that runs on hydro treated vegetable oil (HVO) or diesel. The HVH motor will also regeneratively charge the battery pack during braking or downhill coasting.

Envision Virgin Racing to install cutting-edge race simulator from VI-grade in its expanded Silverstone headquarters
Envision Virgin Racing, the current leading team in the all-electric Formula E series, has this week begun work on expanding its operational headquarters at Silverstone Park, to further develop and improve the team’s race preparations.
The UK-based outfit moved to its new state-of-the-art facilities – located just a stone’s throw from the home of British motor racing – in 2017, ahead of the fourth season of the FIA Formula E Championship.

VI-grade reports completion of installation of DiM150 simulator at Audi Motorsport
VI-grade today announced that Audi Motorsport has completed the installation of the dynamic driving simulation solution DiM150 (Driver-in-Motion). The driving simulator, equipped with a Formula E and DTM car cockpit, has been installed at the Audi Motorsport site in Neuburg, Bavaria (Germany) and is currently in use for the virtual fine tuning of the dynamic performance of the vehicles developed and marketed by Audi Motorsport as well as for professional driver training.

Autonomous driving – safety first!
Autonomous driving will radically change automotive mobility. A large number of additional sensors and cameras will be required in the vehicle in order to make it work. However, these can only function safely and reliably when they are free of contaminations as well as rain and snow. Röchling Automotive is meeting this challenge with its newly developed intelligent cleaning concept: the Advanced Active Cleaning System (AACS). This innovative solution allows contaminated zones of the vehicle to be cleaned in a targeted and demand-driven way, thus meeting one of the basic requirements for autonomous driving. VI-grade reports new adoption of DiM250 at major German automotive OEM
VI-grade today announced that Mercedes-AMG chose the newly developed motion platform named DiM250 (Driver-in-Motion) designed by VI-grade and engineered and manufactured by Saginomiya. The driving simulator, equipped with an AMG car cockpit, will be installed at the Mercedes-AMG site in Affalterbach, Baden-Württemberg, Germany, in the second half of 2018 and will be used to virtually optimize the dynamic behavior of all passenger vehicles developed and marketed by Mercedes-AMG.

BorgWarner supplies the electric auxiliary thermal coolant pump (ATCP) for a turbocharged compact SUV built by a major Chinese automaker. Featuring a brushless, no-leak, low-noise design with integrated microcontroller, BorgWarner’s ATCP provides a continuous flow of coolant through auxiliary circuits even when the engine is shut down, helping auxiliary components maintain optimal operating temperature and contributing to longer component life, improved fuel economy and lower emissions. In this application, a 100-watt ATCP assists in turbocharger and indirect charge air cooling.

BorgWarner expands VCT business with wide range of Hyundai and Kia vehicles
BorgWarner is expanding its engine timing business in Korea, by supplying its advanced cam torque actuated (CTA) variable cam timing (VCT) technology for Hyundai and Kia vehicles powered by 3.0- to 3.8-liter V6 gasoline engines. BorgWarner’s CTA phasers with mid-position lock technology respond faster than traditional VCT systems and enable greater valve timing control over a broad range of engine speeds.

BorgWarner showcases latest transmission technologies at the iInternational CTI Symposium 2015 in Berlin
BorgWarner will present the iClutchTM intelligent clutch system and its innovative compact disconnect system for electrified drivetrains in two technical presentations held at the 14th International Car Training Institute (CTI) Symposium, “Automotive Transmissions, HEV and EV Drives,” in Berlin, Germany, from December 7 to 10. In addition, BorgWarner will showcase its broad portfolio of state-of-the-art transmission and all-wheel drive technologies in Booth F08 at the accompanying Transmission Expo.
